Below are the rules of the 2nd edition (2025), a reliable guide until the 3rd edition opens. There is no entry fee. AI-generated films are not accepted.
Films generated by AI, or whose images are primarily AI-generated, are not accepted.
What we look for

Shorts and mid-length work are weighed by the same standard. A thirteen-minute film and a sixty-minute film sit at the same table. There are no separate sections, and no premiere requirement.

Films generated primarily by AI are not accepted. What we care about is a relationship that actually took place between the filmmaker and the people on screen.
Before you send
- 01Confirm that either the director is of Chinese descent, or more than 50% of the dialogue is in a Chinese language.
- 02The film is a documentary of sixty minutes or less, and not promotional or instructional.
- 03It was completed after the date set in that year’s rules.
- 04It carries Chinese and English subtitles, as MOV or MP4, and is no larger than 3GB.
- 05AI is not the primary means of generating the images.

Selected filmmakers are invited to the ceremony and the workshops, with travel and lodging covered by the executive committee.

Nominations, disagreements and reservations are published in text or on video — including the films the jury believed were missed.

Selected films may be put forward to the Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema and the Brussels Millenium Documentary Film Festival.
Eligibility
- A film qualifies if either its director is of Chinese descent, or more than 50% of its dialogue is in a Chinese language.
- Documentaries of sixty minutes or less. Purely promotional, educational or instructional work is outside the scope of the call.
- Films generated by AI, or whose images are primarily AI-generated, are not accepted.
- The film must have been completed on or after 1 January 2022.
- There is no premiere requirement.
Timeline
- Entries open 25 September 2025 and close 20 November 2025.
- Judging runs in two stages, preliminary and final. The executive committee announced the finalists on 1 December 2025, with the results given at the ceremony that December.
- The executive committee publishes the deliberations in text or on video.
How to submit
- Complete every field of the entry form. Upload the film to Baidu Cloud, YouTube or Vimeo and generate a link — please make it a long-lived preview link, so that it does not expire mid-judging — and enter it on the form.
- Put the entry form, poster and stills in a single folder named “Film Title - Director Name”, compress it and send it to the submissions address, using the same name as the email subject. Do not delete the transfer files until the edition has closed.
- Video files must be MOV or MP4, at least 1080×720, and no larger than 3GB.
- Every film must carry both Chinese and English subtitles.
- If you need a watermark, place the word 评审 in the top right corner. No other watermark may appear anywhere in the frame, as it interferes with jury viewing.
- Request the entry form from the submissions address.
The executive committee does not undertake to notify filmmakers whose work is not selected, and does not provide feedback on the preliminary round. Once an entry is accepted it cannot be withdrawn for any reason. Submitting is taken as acceptance of all terms. In any situation the rules do not cover, the executive committee’s interpretation is final.

Is there an entry fee?
No. Travel and accommodation for selected filmmakers are covered by the executive committee.
Do you accept AI-generated films?
No. Films generated by AI, or whose images are primarily AI-generated, are outside the call.
